This book contains my all-time least favorite trope, but @tickledink.90 told me I needed to read this one because I would love it, and I trust her. WOW, was she right! This book is a beautiful story about love, acceptance, and kindness. It is stunning. MILD SPOILERS AHEAD…

Winnifred “Win” McNulty shows up to her best friend’s annual Halloween party knowing she has the best costume because her secret weapon is her limb difference. She was born with a small arm and hand. She is wildly independent and never accepts help, but she knows her pirate costume with a peg arm will be tough to beat until she encounters Bo, a pirate with a peg leg. Bonding over their limb differences quickly leads to a whirlwind one-night stand. Weeks later, Win discovers she is pregnant. Upon telling Bo, she is surprised that instead of fear, he fully embraces his new role as a soon-to-be parent. Deciding that her crappy apartment is less than ideal and being roommates would help them more equally share responsibilities, she moves into his spare bedroom. Throughout her pregnancy, Win and Bo grow to understand and care about each other as friends. As her feelings grow, Win struggles as she realizes that she is falling in love with her one-night stand/friend/roommate/baby daddy – and that will be complicated. But can a no-strings-attached one-night stand become the best thing to ever happen to both of them?

Told with chapter headings that correlate to weeks of their pregnancy, this book opens with a steamy one-night stand and epitomizes a slow-burn romance. Both have a lot of emotions about becoming parents because of their childhoods, and watching them navigate that is a beautiful part of his story. It was a sweet story of two people who genuinely get to know one another, support each other, and not just accept what others see as different but love them. There was also a lot of discussion about what constitutes equality in a relationship. I highly recommend it if you love steamy, slow-burn romances with lots of heart!

Please do check the trigger warnings (they are listed on Amazon) because there is a lot going on in this book emotionally. It deals with many weighty issues.
