How to Fake a Haunting by Christa Carmen (Oct 7, 2025) Thank you, @christaqua for the free audiobook copy!

Lainey Taylor’s husband, Callum, is spiraling. His alcoholism has become volatile – dangerous enough to threaten both Lainey and their young daughter. Desperate to escape but trapped by her husband’s powerful family, Lainey’s best friend, Adelaide, suggests a shocking plan: if divorce isn’t an option, they’ll haunt him out of the house.

With Callum’s alcoholism already leading to hallucinations and night terrors, he’s vulnerable to their plan. At first, the plan is simple – creepy noises, objects moving on their own, a few flies to set the mood. But when the line between performance and reality begins to blur, Lainey starts to question everything: Is the haunting still under their control, or has something far darker taken root in their home?

This is my third book by Carmen – I’ve loved all three. And I’ve not been able to read any of them at night because they are such intensely good psychological thrillers. This one completely messed with my head – and I mean that in the best way! I’m not going away any spoilers, but I loved the complexity of the reveal and it was incredibly thought-provoking!

🎧 Audiobook Thoughts: This was my first book narrated by Candace Fitzgerald and I thought she did a fantastic job capturing the terror, anger, and fear in this story. (10h 42m)
