The Killer Question by Janice Hallett (Sept 23, 2025) Thank you, @simon.audio and @atriabooks for the free advanced listening copy! #simonaudioinfluencer (Also, thank you @krystibooks for first putting this one on my radar)

In 2019, The Case is Altered is an isolated pub in rural England run by Sue and Mal Eastwood. They’ve started to make a name for themselves with a Monday night trivia competition but then a body is found in the nearby river and a mysterious new trivia team sweeps – inexplicably dominating every match. Meanwhile Sue and Mal are hiding their past role in a huge police operation. In the present day, the pub is closed and Sue & Mal’s nephew, Dominic, is pitching the events that unfolded in the past to a producer as a documentary.

This book is so unique and entertaining. MUCH of the story unfolds through a combination of text messages and witness statements and framed by Dominic in his messages to the producer. It is a little bit cozy british mystery and a little bit diabolical. I loved the way the story unfolded and this is the first time in a long time that I simply didn’t see the final twists coming until they were there. It is definitely a slow-burn mystery, where we aren’t even really sure what crime(s) have occurred until Dominic decides to disclose each portion of the story – and that was very fun!

🎧 Audiobook Thoughts: A full cast narration was essential here, and Simon Audio delivered. With so many trivia teams, pub owners, and timelines weaving together, the variety of voices made each character distinct and the whole story that much more addictive.
