Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver (Sept 23, 2025) Thank you, @prhaudio & @brynne_weaver for the free advanced listening copy! #prhainfluencer
The little town of Cape Carnage would be idilic if it weren’t for it’s exceptionally high body count – and it has become part of the allure for the tourists that flock there each season. Harper Starling doesn’t have much interest in tourists. She’s content living in a cottage on the estate of Arthur, her elderly mentor who is navigating memory loss. Harper cares for his garden and helps Arthur navigate life. If any tourists cause trouble, however, Harper would have no problem turning them into fertilizer via her wood chipper.
When Nolan Rhodes rolls into town, Harper assumes he is another run-of-the-mill tourists but little does she know he came to town with deadly intentions – and she’s his target. Nolan has been consumed with revenge for the past four years and Harper will be the death that will complete his mission. But Harper isn’t what Nolan imagined and what starts as a plot to torment and ultimately un-alive her, becomes an all-consuming attraction, a connection neither can explain, and something that feels a lot like love. Add in a well-connected amateur true crime detective and the messy secrets the people of Cape Carnage would prefer to keep buried (literally and figuratively) and you’ve got a recipe for potential disaster.
I simply love Weaver’s diabolical mind. This book really leans into the mystery/suspense storyline which was a ton of fun and the conclusion made me need the next book in this trilogy IMMEDIATELY. Like her Ruinous Love series, this is definitely dark and violent woven with humor and spice. Both Harper and Nolan are characters I felt instantly invested in and the Cape Carnage community is filled with everything you love in a traditional small-town romance – quirky side characters, the local inn, the wealthy and mysterious town patriarch, a sheriff trying to keep things in line, a cute coffee shop – but in Weaver’s hands there is a bloody twist to everything. If you liked Butcher & Blackbird, I think you’ll really enjoy this one too!
🎧 Audiobook Thoughts: Samantha Brentmoor and Robert Hatchet are duet audio perfection in this performance. Brentmoor narrated books 2 & 3 of the Ruinous Love series and brings the same darkly comedic, vibrant performance here. (13h)
