Capri Sanzio is back as our intrepid single mom San Francisco true crime tour guide (and sweet pickle lover) – and she’s added podcaster and investigative journalist to her list of occupations. SFPD detectives would also add troublemaker. Homicide Inspector Dan Petito is hoping to add girlfriend. During one of her walking tours, a member of the tour group believes she sees a woman being attacked in an apartment window, but the police find nothing. Despite that, something doesn’t sit right with Capri, and so she does what anyone who has recently solved a couple of murders would do: she begins to poke around. Soon she finds herself in the middle of another murder investigation, and her life may hang in the balance.
This series is just an absolute delight! I love Capri, her daughter, her friends/co-workers, and how they care for each other AND deliver hard truths. Her newly evolving relationship with Dan is also great – it doesn’t play into predictable patterns and feels so refreshingly mature. Now to the mystery – I love a good mystery that starts with the mystery if if there’s even been a crime committed and this one has some great rear-window vibes. It also has tons of fascinating San Francisco history embedded into the story, lots of interesting characters, and several very surprising twists. Like the first book in the series, this is simultaneously mysterious, action-packed, fast-paced, funny, and cozy – which is a lot of fun!
🎧 Audiobook Thoughts: Stephanie Németh-Parker is back and such a perfect narrator for this story. She gives distinct voices to each character, making the words leap from the page into full-blown personalities through her performance – particularly in the case of Capri!
