Silvercloak by L.K. Steven (July 29, 2025) Thank you PRH Audio and Delray Books for the gifted advanced listening copy!
Twenty years ago, Saffron Killoran watched the Bloodmoon gang murder her parents, and she’s been planning her revenge ever since. Her path forward? Become a Silvercloak, an elite magical detective force. But just before graduating, her long-held secret is revealed and she’s given an impossible choice: infiltrate the gang that destroyed her family or lose everything she’s worked for.
It’s the opportunity, and danger, she’s always dreamed of. In a world where magic is fueled by pleasure and pain, betrayal lurks everywhere. And when Saffron finds herself drawn to Levan, the Bloodmoon leader’s dangerous and damaged son, her mission grows even more complicated. Torn between vengeance and connection, duty and desire, Saffron must decide who she truly is before it’s too late.
I devoured the first 100 pages of this book in just a few hours – it’s that compelling. L.K. Steven’s world-building is twisted and immersive. The magic system, rooted in emotional extremes, is darkly fascinating. Saffron is a fierce, complex heroine navigating grief, loyalty, and power, while Levan is the perfect morally gray foil – intense, vulnerable, and impossible to ignore. Their chemistry crackles with tension, and their push-and-pull dynamic had me hooked.
Earlier this year I loved Our Infinite Fates, and Silvercloak (Steven’s adult debut) exceeded my expectations. With an explosive ending and more secrets yet to unfold, I’m already desperate for book two.
🎧 Audiobook Thoughts: Saffron Coomber was a new-to-me narrator and completely delivered. She handled the emotional intensity, action, and wide cast of characters with skill. While I usually prefer full casts for fantasy, I didn’t feel anything was missing here. (17h 9m)
