Finders Keepers by Sarah Adler (June 24, 2025) Huge thanks to Berkley Romance and PRH Audio for the gifted finished print and advanced listening copies!
Seventeen years ago, Nina and Quentin were inseparable – neighbors, best friends, and maybe something more. The summer they were fifteen, they threw themselves into a mysterious local treasure hunt… but what they found instead was heartbreak. Their friendship ended, their families faced emotional upheaval, and Quentin left town without a goodbye.
Now, nearly two decades later, fate (and a string of bad luck) has brought them back home, living next door to each other again – both jobless, single, and a little lost. When they decide to pick up their long-abandoned treasure hunt, they also start unearthing something even more elusive: old feelings that never truly faded.
Sarah Adler is an auto-buy author for me, and Finders Keepers is a lovely addition to her works. Her signature blend of quirky charm, emotional depth, and laugh-out-loud humor shines through every page. This is a true slow burn – Nina and Quentin’s reconnection builds gradually but beautifully, and by the time their relationship fully reignites, you’re all in. If you aren’t feeling it at first, please stick with them!
I also loved the subtle thread of history woven through the story. The nod to the Federal Writers’ Project of the Great Depression added a meaningful, unexpected layer to the plot and made the treasure hunt feel both whimsical and profound. It’s a dual timeline romance of sorts, blending teenage nostalgia with adult resilience, and Adler nails the balance.
🎧 Audiobook Notes: Mara Wilson once again brings Adler’s offbeat characters to life with pitch-perfect narration. If you loved her performance in Mrs. Nash’s Ashes or Happy Medium, you’re going to adore this one. She captures Nina and Quentin’s dynamic and Sarah’s humor effortlessly. (11 hours)
