Charming Romance in Small-Town Maine: A Review

Wood You Be Mine? by Daphne Elliot (Out Now!) This series (and everything by this author) has been on my TBR and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to jump in – I’m definitely reading ALL of this series!

Alice is the new principal in a tiny Maine town – like, really tiny. Though she’s no stranger to small-town life, this is a whole new level. She’s excited to settle in at her cozy rented cabin… until she meets her grumpy (and gorgeous) landlord, Henri. Henri’s unimpressed with Alice’s lack of Maine survival skills – no boots, no appropriate car, no bear spray?! But as Alice works to win over the skeptical townsfolk, she slowly proves herself, and melts Henri’s frosty exterior in the process. Just as sparks fly, a series of events test their new relationship.

This author is local to my area! I especially enjoyed the contrast between Massachusetts and Maine New England culture – so spot on. The story was equal parts charming, fun, heartfelt and spicy. I really loved the family dynamics – both the family you are born with and the family you choose. There’s an intriguing cliffhanger about some of the elements of Henri’s family business that gives an additional incentive to return for book two, but I was all in just based on the writing, banter, and family relationships already. I’m pretty sure that I’ll soon fall down a rabbit hole and binge this series and her next series. Lots of fun here!

🎧 Audiobook Thoughts 🎧 Lucy Rivers and Stephen Borne do a lovely dual narration narration of this story – embodying the exasperation of Henri and the fish-out-of water of  , along with all of the quirky characters Elliot gives us along the way. (7h 58m)
