Gabby just interviewed for her dream job—teaching and assistant coaching the baseball team at the very school that launched her little brother’s baseball career. And… she tanked it. Reeling from the disappointment, she throws caution to the wind and has a one-night stand with a “stranger” at a bar. The stranger? None other than Ryland Rowley, Almond Bay’s baseball coach.
Ryland wasn’t at her interview and didn’t recognize her, even though they’d met before. What did it matter? Gabby was sure she’d never set foot in Almond Bay again. But then two things happen: (1) it’s the best sex of her life, and (2) she gets the job. To complicate things further, Ryland turns out to be her landlord.
Now Gabby and Ryland must navigate being coworkers, co-coaches, and neighbors while trying to keep their smoldering connection under wraps with a friends-without-benefits agreement. But as meddling friends and family intervene, two people who have always prioritized their loved ones over their own happiness might finally find their perfect match.
Meghan Quinn delivers yet another heartwarming, hilarious, and spicy small-town romance. Her ability to craft interconnected communities, couples with electric banter, and deep emotional bonds is unparalleled. While this book has more spice than I usually go for, the rich relationships kept me hooked. Gabby and Ryland’s dynamic is delightful, but the most moving part of the story is their relationship with Ryland’s niece, Mac, for whom he’s the primary caregiver.
Although I haven’t read the first two books in the series, I didn’t feel lost—though I’m already eager to dive into those stories. The cameos from earlier characters and hints about future couples added an extra layer of fun. As a baseball fan, I also loved how the sport serves as a vibrant backdrop for this heartfelt story. And if that epilogue doesn’t bring tears to your eyes, something is seriously wrong with you.
🎧 About the Audiobook 🎧 The duet narration by Samantha Brentmoor and Sebastian York is top-notch. At just under 14 hours, this audiobook is longer than average but absolutely worth it. Both narrators have delivered some of my favorite performances in recent years, and they bring their A-game to this one.
