The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year: A Heartfelt Holiday Adventure

Maggie Chase is the reigning queen of cozy mysteries, while Ethan Wyatt is the master of tough-guy thrillers. Sharing a publisher means they have to tolerate each other’s presence at least once a year at the publisher’s Christmas party – where Ethan, of course, always manages to call Maggie by the wrong name. But this year, the rivalry takes a surprising twist when both receive cryptic invitations to spend the holidays at the English estate of a mysterious fan of their work.

Their host turns out to be none other than Eleanor Ashley, the Grande Dame of mystery writing herself. But when Eleanor vanishes, the bridge washes out, and the guests are snowed in, Maggie and Ethan are forced to join forces. As they race to uncover the truth, the line between rivals and something more begins to blur. Was it foul play? Or does Eleanor have a plot twist of her own in mind?

I absolutely loved this book. Imagine Knives Out meets Agatha Christie with a splash of enemies-to-lovers romance! The locked-room mystery is brilliantly crafted, the cast of characters is delightfully eccentric, and the banter between Maggie and Ethan is pitch-perfect. The story also offers heartfelt reflections on the power of books and writing, all wrapped up in a deeply satisfying ending. Fun, funny, and full of festive vibes – this is a perfect holiday read.

The audiobook is an absolute must-listen. With duet narration by Saskia Maarleveld and Zachary Webber, the performances elevate an already fantastic story. Their voices bring the characters to life with warmth and wit, making it an engaging and quick listen at just 8 hours and 21 minutes. Highly recommend!
