Thank you @macmillian.audio for the #gifted advanced listening copy of this thrilling and entertaining murder mystery!
Capri Sanzio is a San Francisco tour guide with a darkly fascinating niche—serial killers. Her expertise comes from a personal connection: her grandfather was convicted as the city’s most infamous murderer, “Overkill Bill.” Despite the conviction, Capri has never believed in his guilt, though she’s never actively sought to prove his innocence. But when a copycat killer starts claiming victims across the city, Capri and her daughter find themselves under suspicion by the SFPD. To clear their names, Capri must uncover the truth behind the current murders and unravel the secrets of the past—before the killer gets too close.
This book was such a fun read! It’s a smart, high-stakes thriller that keeps the suspense without leaning too heavily into gore. Capri’s determination to solve the case and clear her name makes for a gripping story, even as her relentless pursuit often clashes with the SFPD. The twists and turns kept me guessing as the tangled web of past and present crimes slowly unraveled. I also appreciated the layers of drama involving Capri’s strained relationship with her former in-laws and the clash between old and new San Francisco money, which added depth to the narrative.
The audiobook, just under 10 hours at 1x speed, features a stellar solo performance by Stephanie Németh-Parker. Her narration brings the characters and atmosphere to life, making it an engaging listen. If you’ve enjoyed her work on other audiobooks, you’ll love her take on this one too
