by Myah Ariel (April 16, 2024) – Heartfelt thanks to @berkleyromance and @prhaudio for the gift of the digital, print, and audio copies of this beautiful second-chance romance from @myahmeetscute. I was fortunate enough to attend the Berkley spring influencer preview event, where Ariel was a panelist. Her description of the book was so compelling that I couldn’t wait to dive in. Below is my honest review. #berkleypartner #prhaudioinfluencer #berkley

Kaliya Wilson and Danny Prescott had one of those college romances that burned hot and fast, ending in flames. Both were film majors in NYC; Danny was the son of Hollywood royalty, while Kaliya entered film school with passion and talent but no connections. Years later, they are both in Hollywood. Danny is basking in the glow of Oscar nominations and acclaim, while Kaliya is a receptionist at a movie studio. They reconnect when Danny’s newest film comes under Kaliyah’s employer, and the old flames of personal and professional connection spark immediately. Through the production of a movie based on the story of Danny’s parents’ interracial marriage in the Deep South, Danny and Kaliya explore the reasons they hurt each other in the past while attempting to keep their relationship professional.

This is a dreamy, slow-burn Hollywood romance that doesn’t fall victim to the traps of celebrity and privilege. You get a sense of the dark side of filmmaking – from nepotism to glass ceilings, racism, and politics. It is also a tender love story of two people with an undeniable connection. I love that Ariel evades common romance traps and writes a story where you know there will be a happily ever after, but each must also create their own identity and success story independently. The audiobook narrator is fantastic and creates stunning voices for the main characters.
