by Carley Fortune – Many thanks to @berkleyromance and @carleyfortune for a gifted digital copy of this perfect summer read. This contemporary romance, a delightful blend of humor and heart, is a must-read for the season. Below is my honest review. #berkleypartnerย
Bridget and Lucy started as colleagues, became friends, and then roommates. They planned a trip to Prince Edward Island (PEI) five years ago to visit Bridget’s family. When Bridget is delayed a day, Lucy amuses herself by flirting with the cute guy shucking oysters at a local restaurant. Flirting turns into an epic one-night stand only to discover that the cute guy is Bridget’s younger brother, and one of Bridget’s rules for the vacation was, quite literally, “Don’t fall in love with my brother!” The one-night stand they never told Bridget about becomes years of hookups and yearning while each tries desperately not to fall for the other. Back on PEI, just before Bridget’s wedding, Lucy and Felix may be forced to confront their feelings and come clean to Bridget.
To say this book is fun is a vast understatement. You will LOVE Lucy, Felix, and Bridget. LOVE. Summer sun, making meals together, beaches, fire pits, late nights with glasses of rye, a cold Vinho Verde, stolen kisses – this book has it all. But what truly sets it apart is its exploration of the complexities of relationships and the struggle between desire and loyalty. It is also a great story of deciding what you want and going for it, finding the people who have your back, learning when to hang on or let go, and trusting that those you love genuinely see you. The dual timeline bounces between the present and years of past hookups and critical moments in the evolution of Lucy and Felix’s relationship in both PEI and Toronto.
