by Sophie H. Morgan – I’ve had my eye on this book for a while, and I’m so glad I finally got the chance to dive into it!

The Witch Is Back introduces us to Emma Bluewater, a witch who chooses to step away from her magical roots after her arranged marriage falls apart. Now living in the human world, she runs a Chicago bar called Toil and Trouble with her best friends, determined to keep a safe distance from the witchy politics and drama she left behind. But life takes a twist when Bastian Truenote, the man she was once betrothed to (before he left without a word), unexpectedly walks back into her lifeβ€”and her bar. Emma soon discovers that unraveling a marriage contract is far more complicated than ever imagined.

Packed with secrets, spells, and surprises, Morgan masterfully weaves together the threads of this story in ways that kept me guessing and thoroughly entertained. It was an absolute delight to watch Emma and Bastian rediscover their childhood bond, navigate the complexities of family expectations, and slowly open up to each other. Morgan slowly revealed pieces of events from both Emma and Bastain’s perspectives, revealing how each character’s choices shaped their current predicament. It was refreshing to see Emma and Bastian take responsibility for their roles in what happened, making their journey all the more satisfying.

The book is rich with humor, thanks partly to the quirky found families and their incredibly loyal familiarsβ€”a unique dog and a three-legged cat who bring their charm to the tale. The blend of magical intrigue and personal growth kept me hooked from start to finish. I’m thrilled that the second book in the series is already out, and I’ll happily continue following this enchanting series for as long as Sophie keeps writing it.

A special shoutout to Natalie Duke, who narrated the audiobook and brought each character to life with fantastic voice work.
