by Alison Espach – Thank you to @macmillliamaudio for the #gifted audiobook of this breathtaking novel. Below is my honest review.

This book works better if you don’t know many details, so here is a teaser summaryโ€ฆ

The Cornwall Inn in Newport, RI, is bustling with wedding people. Everyone is arriving for the over-the-top weeklong wedding celebrationโ€”everyone except Phoebe. Stunning in a green dress and gold heels (but not a piece of luggage in sight), Phoebe is the only Cornwall Inn guest not attending the wedding. So, it is no surprise when everyone assumes she is there for the wedding, including the bride. Over the week, many people’s lives will be transformed by the unexpected bond between Phoebe and the bride.

The Wedding People is the second book this summer that has left me speechless. It is heartbreaking, uplifting, raw, and outrageously funny. Espach has written something extraordinary about loss, forgiveness, and brutal honesty. It does deal with some weighty issues, so if you know you have some content triggers, I’d recommend checking those out.

The audiobook is performed by Helen Laser, who has voiced some of my favorite audiobooks this year. She absolutely nails the heartbreak and humor of this novel.
