Book: ๐๐๐๐ Audiobook: ๐๐๐๐ซ
by Danielle Trussoni – Many thanks to @prhaudio for a gifted copy of the audiobook of this brain-twisting thriller.
Mike Brink is an internationally renown puzzle master – he can see patterns like no one else in the world. That wasnโt always the case – he was once a football star but a hard hit on the field changed his life, making him one of a handful of people diagnosed with acquired savant syndrome. Some saw it as a defect while others saw it as an extraordinary gift. Mike remolded his life around his new brain function and in that capacity visits a prisoner who has devised a very unique puzzle. Intrigued by its complexity and its creator, Mike delves into the her past for answers only to encounter more questions about the past, present, and future.
This book had everything – complex puzzles, a spooky house, multiple mysterious villains, a cute dog, and an interesting commentary on artificial intelligence. I really enjoyed Mike and how he felt with his traumatic brain injury. I went into the book thinking it would be a fun, straightforward book but it really jumped between a number of thriller plots. It was simultaneously about the haunting of past lives and the hunger to live beyond your body. I started with the audiobook but quickly discovered that the map photos depicted in the novel were important, so I needed up doing a reading/writing combo.
