by Lindsey Lanza – This one has been on my TBR since I was fortunate enough to read Not Safe for Work, an interconnected standalone released earlier this year.Β

Lucy Gold writes happily-ever-afters for a living, but her life is far from picture-perfect. Fresh off a sudden and painful divorce from her college sweetheart, she’s moving from Boston to LA with little more than a few belongings and her loyal service dog. Her plan? To room with her best friend and college roommate. But when her friend unexpectedly revokes the invitation while Lucy is already en route, she finds herself completely adrift. Enter Henry Turner, a handsome stranger on her flight, who offers her a place to stay in his Malibu home, which he shares with a group of musicians. Much to her surprise, Henry is none other than the composer whose music helped her through the toughest months after her divorce. While Henry’s reclusive nature and crippling anxiety have kept him distant from his housemates, Lucy’s warmth, infectious smile, and cooking skills soon win over the entire household. As Lucy and Henry grow closer, both harboring insecurities they fear will make them unworthy of the other.

This is my third book by Lanza, and she’s officially reached β€œauto-buy” status for me. Her ability to craft complex, emotional characters is so good, and she always brings fresh, unique twists to her stories. I adored the found family dynamic among the roommates in the Malibu house, the satisfying comeuppance for Lucy’s ex-husband and former friend, and the unique journey Henry and Lucy take to their happily ever after. With plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and tender, deeply felt emotions, Speechless was a joy.
