Thank you, Lindsay, for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this very fun fake dating romance! Below is my honest review.
Olivia has been working on the male-dominated sales team for tech firm Sizzl for a few years, and she’s spent a lot of that time fighting the interpretation that she only has her job because her (now ex-)boyfriend is an investor, which isn’t shocking. After all, there’s a lot of toxic masculinity in this workplace. But when her boss implies she should date a potential client to close the deal, she’s had enough. Her co-worker, Gavin, who is always standoffish with her, thinks he is helping her by spontaneously declaring that they’re dating to get her out of her boss’s horrific plan. Now Olivia is fake dating a co-worker she’s pretty sure hates her, and Gavin is trying not to spill that he’s been hopelessly in love with her for years.
I adored Liv and Gavin as they learned more about each other, discovered their very different upbringings, showed their weaknesses, leaned on each other for support, and ultimately realized that nothing about their fake relationship was ever fake. There is also a fantastic critique of the double-standard women face in the workplace (particularly in tech). Plus, an adorable hedgehog in outfits. Read if you love: workplace romances, fake dating, one bed, witty banter, he falls first, she takes back her power, and protective siblings. If you haven’t read Lindsay’s books before, she is EXTREMELY talented! Put A Little Magic on your holiday season reading list right now.
