by Eliza Jane Brazier – Thank you @berkleypub and @prhaudio for the #gifted audiobook copy of the perfect book for anyone who can’t decide if they want to read a fast-paced thriller or a spicy enemies to lovers romance. Below is my honest review.

When Eva and Jonathan meet on a sleeper train from Florence to Paris, the attraction is immediate and electric. Neither is in the market for more than a baggage car hookup with a stranger, but neither could have predicted that they share an occupation – paid assassin. Six months later, they reencounter each other. The electric chemistry remains, but this time, they are each tasked with killing the other. As they embark on a sweeping, dangerous game of cat-and-mouse across Western Europe, they both must decide if killing the other is worth losing the other – and they begin to wonder who is pulling the strings.

This book is a rip-roaring good time! It catches you on page one and does not let go. If you combine a violent thriller, a fast-paced European adventure, and a spicy rival-to-lovers romance, you’ll get this book. I loved that they didn’t get all doe-eyed and stop hunting each other. They genuinely fall in love while actively trying to kill each other. There were several cinematic twists that I didn’t see coming, and I ate it all upβ€”tons of action, a thriller, a mystery, and a super spicy love story. Also, I once visited the Palace of Versailles with my parents. I need to apologize to them about the memories I now have of the Hall of Mirrors.

The audiobook is a dual narration by January LaVoy and Will Damron, who also voiced Listen for the Lie, one of my favorite audiobook thrillers of 2024.
