Book: ๐๐๐๐ Audiobook: ๐๐๐๐๐ซ Spice: ๐ถ๏ธ
by Sarah J Maas
If youโve already read the first two books in this series, you are absolutely reading this book regardless of any review, so Iโll keep this short and spoiler-free.
The action in book three picks up almost immediately after the shocking conclusion of book two. Bryce, Hunt, Ruhn, and all of the characters youโve grown to love throughout the series are back in an epic showdown for the fate of their world.
I loved jumping back into their world. You get lots, but not all, of answers in this book, and I was ultimately really pleased with how the story unfolded. Bryce is, by far, my favorite of SJMโs female characters. Her brash approach is entertaining and was an interesting counterpoint to the characters she engages with at the beginning of the book (IYKYK). I am constantly impressed by fantasy writers who tell big, bold, complex stories in wholly new worlds. That being said, I did feel like some storylines didnโt seem necessary, and the book would have been just as fulfilling with about 150 fewer pages – but I can forgive that because we get multiple delivery otter appearances. ๐ฆฆ
As with most fantasy books, I always combine reading and listening. There is something about figuring out how these names and places are intended to be pronounced that helps me feel more immersed in the experience. The Crescent City narration is outstanding.
