Book: ๐๐๐๐๐ย Audiobook: ๐๐๐๐๐
by Chris Whitaker – Thank you, @prhaudio for the #gifted audiobook of this book that left me speechless. Below is my honest attempt to pull together coherent thoughtsโฆ.
In a small Missouri town in the mid-1970s, with a backdrop of a presidential election, Roe v Wade, and the conclusion of the Vietnam War, girls are disappearing. When young teen Patch intervenes to prevent the most popular girl in school from being abducted, no one could have imagined that a tsunami of change would rock the townspeople for decades.
The book, told in 261 extremely short chapters (592 pages), is a small-town story that takes readers across the country. It is a missing person mystery, a serial killer thriller, a heartbreaking love story, and a story about fierce and unwavering friendship. Murder, kidnapping, first love, protecting the vulnerable, uncovering long-buried secrets, art, obsession, humor and tenderness and so much more is packed into this incredible book. The plot is a series of unexpected twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I donโt want to say too much about the plot because it was deeply satisfying as a reader every time I thought WHAT? NO! SERIOUSLY? OMG! I hope this book finds an enduring place on bookshelves and sparks discussions for years to come.
Edoardo Ballerini could put on a clinic for narrating thrillers and does a perfect job with this one.
