Book: ๐๐๐๐ ๐ซ Audiobook: ๐๐๐๐๐ Spice: Cracked Door
By Adrienne Young
You know those rare books that, after only a few chapters, you know will stick with you long after you finish them? This is one of those books for me.
June Farrow has been waiting for her mind to break, when she would start to lose hold of reality. It had happened to each of the Farrow women at some point. It was late for her grandmother but early in life for her mother. So, when, in her mid-30s, June begins to hear voices, see people, and have memories that aren’t real, she isn’t surprised. Then, she begins to see the red door. But she doesn’t want to burden her ailing grandmother, so she keeps her descent into madness secret. However, after her grandmother dies and June receives a mysterious photograph, she realizes she isn’t the only one keeping secrets. The Farrow women’s mystery is much greater than June could have imagined.
This book is a sweeping, time-bending journey through the Farrow bloodline rooted in murder, love, heartbreak, and the lengths we will go to for those we love. I won’t spoil anything about June’s journey – the less you know going in, the more rewarding the reading experience will be. But I love the journey June takes as she unravels the mystery of her own life. It is a magical realism book that could also easily be categorized as a romance and a mystery.
Thanks to @prhaudio for the free audiobook. The narrator has “that voice” – the one that pulls you in and hypnotizes you into the story, resulting in me binging the entire thing in a little over a day.
