by Jeneva Rose: I had wanted to read this psychological thriller for a long time and was thrilled when @across.the.pond.book.club chose it as our January book. It grabs you from the first page.Β

I won’t share too much about the plot because the less you know, the better. But here are the highlights. Sarah is a workaholic lawyer hoping to become a named partner at her law firm. Still in her early 30s, she is an incredibly successful and well-respected defense attorney. When she met her husband Adam in college, he was on a path to becoming a successful writer, but his career dreams didn’t come to fruition like Sarah’s. Struggling to find inspiration for his next novel, Adam often retreats to their cabin to write while Sarah stays in the city to work. But Adam is doing more than writing at the cabin; he’s also doing Kelly, a local waitress. After Kelly is found brutally murdered in the cabin, Adam is arrested. Sarah must shake off the shock of his infidelity to defend Adam against murder charges.

This was my first Jeneva Rose book, but I will quickly jump into all the rest. I loved the twists and turns the story took, and Rose planted many red herrings that kept me guessing until the end. The audiobook narrators do an excellent job of amping up the fear and frustration as the story intensifies.

There were widely varying opinions on this one during our book club discussion – which is what makes book clubs so fun. The same book can get wildly different responses from readers.
