by Falon Ballard

There are several types of celebrity romance books, and this is the best of the second-chance between co-stars that I have read. I just fell into this delightful story that @falonballard has created. It is my first of her books, and I’m already planning to read the rest.

Emmy Harper is not only the child of Hollywood royalty, but she is also a renowned Oscar-winning screenwriter. With her newest script, a rom-com, they are having trouble casting the female lead because no actress was as good in auditions as Emmy was when she read with the male lead candidates. Under pressure, she agrees to take the role herself despite still being traumatized by her first (and only) movie almost 15 years ago. That film was also a first for Grayson West. But while he shot to stardom as one of the biggest action stars in the world, how humiliated he made her feel is the reason she left acting and never spoke to Grayson again. That is, until shooting is set to begin on her new film, and the male lead breaks his leg in a skiing accident. The only person available to step in is Grayson F-ing West. The tension between them on set is almost as bad as the acting they are turning in, and no one on set can figure out if it is hate tension or sexual tension that is causing shared scenes to be atrocious. When the director demands that they work their $h!t out, they β€œwork it out” πŸ˜‰ As they begin to sizzle off-screen, so do their performances on screen, but can a fling on set translate to something real?

There was just something great about this second chance, forced proximity, enemies to lovers romance. Not only were Emmy and Grayson both interesting characters with a lot of depth, but the crew, friends, and Emmy’s mom all added a lot to the story. Despite being a Hollywood romance, we got a quaint Gilmore Girls Stars-Hollow-esque little town with an adorable inn.

Thank you to @prhaudio for the opportunity to listen and provide an honest review. The book has four narrators for different characters, which was lots of fun and provided a unique element that set the audiobook apart.
