File this one under Bookstagram made me read it! I’ve enjoyed seeing everyone share how much they love it, and I was excited to jump into this Chicago-based series.
Evan Zanders is the bad boy of Chicago hockey – on and off the ice, leaving a trail of one-night stands in his wake. But when he crosses paths with Stevie, the new flight attendant on the team plane, his fame and reputation are doing him no favors. Although the attraction is mutual, Stevie’s no fraternizing with the players stipulation in her employment contract is enough to keep Zanders at arm’s lengthβ¦until it isn’t. Their families and careers complicate Zanders and Stevie’s attempt to create a relationship, but ultimately, choosing one’s own happiness over the expectations of others is what’s most important.
I completely understand why so many people love this book, and I’ll continue with the series. There are great primary and secondary characters, and the banter between Zanders and Stevie is charming. For me, this book was long relative to the plot. Clocking in at almost 500 pages and 16 hours on audio, I expected a more complex or dramatic story arc. Additionally, since this is the Windy City series, I expected more details or callouts about Chicago. Instead, it could have been set in a fictional city because few details made it unique to the Chicago location. That being said, I’ve already started book two!
The audiobook narration definitely enhances the content and the dual narration is excellent.
