Book: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Audiobook: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Spice: Closed Door

Much like Ruthless Vows, I went into this second book in the series cautiously optimistic that it could recapture the wit and charm of the first book, and it ended up being even better!

Emily and Wendell are back teaching at Cambridge after the adventures of the previous book. Due to the massive success of her encyclopedia, Emily has received tenure and is riding an academic high. Because of her independent streak, she is still a little put out that she needed Wendell’s rescuing on their previous adventure, and she is also unwilling to answer his marriage proposal. However, very quickly, the tables turn, and Wendell desperately needs Emily’s help to save him from multiple assassination attempts from the faerie, taking them on an adventure to the Austrian Alps in search of a door to Wendell’s world.

Unlike the slow start to book one, Otherlands opens with a bang and is a more fast-paced adventure overall. You still have the quirky characters, witty banter, and fae world-building. They are also visited by many characters from book one, who help them along the way as they add more friends to their ranks. Both Emily and Wendell grow a lot in this book, and you see how, despite being complete opposites, they complement each other so well. If you liked book one, I think you’ll love book two, and if you are looking for a fun, light-hearted fantasy series, I highly recommend it!
