by Brynne Weaver: I am not a dark romance person. I was nervous but intrigued by the idea of a love story between serial killers. This is me telling you that sometimes reading outside your comfort zone is an excellent thing. This isn’t what I think of when I hear dark romance. This is a violent, campy, funny, deeply (and sweetly) romantic book.

When the Butcher of Boston (Rowan) and the Orb Weaver (Sloane) have a chance encounter in a genuinely disgusting meet-cute, the rival murderers bond over their shared interest – murdering serial killers. Thus begins a story that spans over four years as they embark on a nationwide annual game to track and take down some of the worst killers in the country. Over time, their relationship grows from rivals to friends to best friends, while each harbors much deeper feelings for the other. This dual POV book is equal parts thriller and rom-com, where the gore is tempered with hijinks, misadventures, and deep adoration.

This book had too much of everything – in the best way. I never thought I’d be rooting for those crazy murders to find their love match, but I sure was. I highly recommend the audiobook. A duet narration by Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers has each narrating their character’s POV chapters but also voicing all dialogue for their characters throughout. They. Were. Mesmerizing.

The trigger warnings at the beginning of the book are longer than one page (please read them), but I promise you, this is as if you combined a violent thriller with a spicy romance. I could go on forever about this book. It was the definition of un-put-down-able. (Is the background of the first picture cookies and cream ice cream? Yes. IYKYK)
