Book: πππ Audiobook: πππ
by CJ Cooke
This was a bold, ambitious book with multiple narrators and timelines. It is a dramatic story with lots of characters and sub-stories.
Two sisters and their mother go missing from a remote Scottish island after their mother is commissioned to paint the island lighthouse. The remaining sister, Luna, has spent the last 20+ years unsure what happened to her family. Her memories are complex and unclear from that time, but she never stopped searching for them. Then she gets a call from a hospital that her youngest sister has been found. Only when she arrives at the hospital she sees not the late 20s version of her youngest sister but the same seven-year-old girl she lost all those years ago. Now somehow responsible for a child, Luna and her sister Clover return to the island to try and discover what happened to them.
All three sisters, the mother, and other characters are narrators across multiple timelines in this book. It is a fascinating premise. The book’s first part is confusing and has several characters and storylines that weren’t necessary. However, the latter half of the book does bring the pieces together interestingly and surprisingly.
