by Lana Ferguson
Two doctors who are werewolves. One is a sunshine doctor with an adorable love of soup, and the other is a grumpy cardiologist who needs to get a life.
Dr. Mackenzie Carter’s grandmother is an unrelenting matchmaker for her Omega werewolf granddaughter. She is also a terrible matchmaker. While on break at the hospital, Mac lies to her grandmother and tells her she has a boyfriend. When pressed for details, she describes the first man she sees in the break room – Dr. Noah Taylor, who happens to be the world’s grumpiest killjoy. But when she approaches him about a picture to give her grandma, Noah has a counteroffer. He’s an Alpha wolf, and he has been lying about it. He needs a mate to keep his job because of the ridiculous perception that alpha wolves have anger issues. There’s one catch – Alpha and Omega wolves, when they get together, are supposed to be lightning in a bottle. Their fake relationship soon becomes a fake relationship with benefits as they discover that the Alpha/Omega thing has some truth to it. What starts as a physical relationship becomes more profound as they discover they might be perfect for each other.
This book has some charming elements – most notably her cute love of soup and their protective friends and family. However, there was not enough development of Mac and Noah as individuals, doctors, or a couple. It would have been great to see more of them as doctors or understand more of this world where werewolves are commonplace. We just kind of jump right into the fake-dating-with-benefits situation. I’ve also determined that, although I am not opposed to spicy books, I 100% Do not want them to include dozens of highly descriptive references to scents and fluids. DOZENS OF REFERENCES.
