A convict, a sharpshooter, a runaway, a spy, a heartrender, and a thief are the six unlikely people who come together to pull off an audacious heist that will either end in riches or death.

Kaz, the leader, has a unique mind for plotting and bringing the group together without ever fully showing his hand. They embark on the risky caper skeptical of everything – the journey, the heist, and each other. The team grows stronger, smarter, and more creative as they accomplish each hurdle to achieve their goal. They ultimately risk it all for their goal and their group.

For the first couple of chapters, all I could think was WHAT IS HAPPENING? A ton of characters are introduced in the first few chapters, and it can feel overwhelming until you settle into the story and realize that you are reading a classic caper novel set in a high fantasy world. Once I understood that this book isn’t following a traditional fantasy narrative, I got caught up in them achieving their goals and twists and turns to get there. It was a lot of fun with bold, complicated characters, multiple POVs, and flashbacks to understand how characters got to where they are. Although this is a high-stakes, action-packed book, it has many lighthearted and humorous moments as the team banters and jokes away their fears.
