by Chelsea Curto

I love a good sports romance, and Chelsea Curto has written a great one! It definitely has some Travis and Taylor vibes.

Lacey, a pediatrician, and Shawn, a retired NFL star and current coach, were brought together when their best friends started dating (see: Camera Chemistry). Now, they’ve become best friends themselves. When Lacey brings a date to the game, and he refuses to kiss her on the kiss cam, Shawn steps in. What was meant to save her embarrassment and get the camera to stop focusing on her becomes a viral video. Both single, they decide that continuing the romantic charade is in their mutual best interests. She can bring a boyfriend to the annual hospital holiday party; he can have a partner to bring home for Christmas, and then they go back to friends on New Year’s Day. However, their fake dating leads to real feelings, growing attraction, and an escalating number of intimate activities on the fake dating approved list. When the “just once to get it out of our system” doesn’t work, will either be able to call it quits at the new year?

There is something I just love about romance novels whiner the main characters are fully-formed adults who know who they are and what they want out of life. Curto captures Lacey and Shawn’s growing connection and intensity as the weeks pass. There is a scene where the couples play a game about how well they know each other and Lacey and Shawn both answer correctly as to what the other wants from a partner is a really powerful and emotional moment where you see the culmination of years of friendship becoming a deep understanding of one another.

This book is the epitome of sweet and spicy. It is full of heart and laughter – as well as being very sexy. If you love sports romances, holiday romances, friends-to-lovers, or fake dating, you’ll enjoy this one
