Book: πππππ Audiobook: πππππ
By Hannah Nicole Maehrer
This book is a wild little ride! After three thrillers in a row, it was a delightfully quirky adventure.
Evie has found herself without a job. As the sole supporter of her ailing father and young sister, she needs work. A chance encounter with the secretive and terrifying βVillainβ in the woods of her village lands her a job as his assistant. As one of the few people who know his true identity, Evie becomes his right hand in all of his evil plans, finding she is surprisingly adept at scheming and immune to the horrors of his violent nature. It doesnβt hurt that heβs easy on the eyes. But someone is out to thwart the Villain, which means everyone in his employ is at risk. Can Evie and the Villain find out who is after them before they get caught?
Assistant to the Villain reads like a fun fairy tale where the romantic lead is a killer disinterested in being a hero but constantly stepping into the role when it comes to his assistant, Evie. The first third of the book is setting the stage and character-building. You come to know and enjoy these strange characters. The pace picks up in the remainder of the book, with tons of action and revelations in the final chapters. Maehrer pulls it all together and leaves you wanting more in the final pages (two more books are planned in the series).
