By Rachel Lynn Solomon
Chandler once aspired to write novels, and technically, she does. As a ghostwriter, it is her job to write compelling books for others and take the money, not the credit.
At the book signing for one of “her” books, the “author” doesn’t even recognize her name – after countless emails about the book Chandler wrote for her. The only upside to the depressing realization is that she meets a handsome man at the bar. As they walk the city together and sparks begin to fly, Chander is all-in. But the sex was just BAD, and she sneaks out of this stranger’s hotel room, thankful she’ll never see him again.
The next day, she arrives for lunch with Finn Walsh, a potential new client and C-list actor from a decade-old werewolf show she’s never heard of, only to discover that he is her one-night stand. As uncomfortable as it is, she needs the work, and in addition to a significant fee, Finn’s team will pay for her to travel the fan convention circuit with him to write the book.
After a series of awkward discussions, she admits he didn’t blow her mind as he thought. He earnestly wants to know what he did wrong. They strike a deal – in addition to writing the book together, Chandler will school Finn in satisfying a woman, not for her, but for future women in his life. As they travel from city to city, they grow closer emotionally and physically, and the lines between them blur.
On the surface, this is a fun and funny romance, but underneath, it is about a lot of insecurities and compulsions the characters (like many of us) carry. Solomon’s writing is top-notch, and the book is so beautifully written that you get sucked into the story. I felt so much of what Chandler and Finn struggle with, and how they provide support & strength to each other is fantastic.
