As of today, Iris Winnow and Roman Kitt are definitely among my favorite book couplesโฆand I donโt say that lightly! (Looking at you Violet and Xaden, Rhys and Feyre, Nathan and Bree, Annie and Will, etcโฆ)
The Gods are at war for the first time in centuries, and Iris has just sent her brother off to the front lines, but the war still feels distant from her city. She is fighting a different battle, one for the correspondent position at the newspaper. Unfortunately, her competition is the annoyingly talented and aggravatingly handsome Roman Kitt. With competition fierce at the paper, her mother falling apart at home, and no way to contact her brother, Iris starts writing letters to her brother and slipping them into her wardrobe for safekeeping. However, the letters disappear only to magically appear in the bedroom of Roman Kitt. When he anonymously writes back, they begin a deep, heartfelt correspondence that changes their lives forever.
This book is about love, fate, and the battle for good. It is a beautiful story with stunning writing. It is a sweeping, fast-paced story of war and an intimate study of the vulnerability of letting others know you. This is a unique fantasy novel that avoids numerous chapters of โworld-buildingโ by seamlessly integrating that information into the plot through the newspaper and letters shared between Iris and Roman. It is the first book in the Letters of Enchantment duology, and I highly recommend it.
