Book: ππππ Audiobook: ππππ
By Ashley Winstead
From comic conventions to renaissance festivals and the highest levels of Texas state government, Lee and Ben are so hard to resist as they try desperately to resist each other in this laugh-out-loud rom-com from Ashley Winstead (She also wrote, among other things, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife. Can we talk for a second about how unfair it is that she can write superb thrillers and spectacular rom-coms?)
As Comms Director for a female-led electric car company, Lee Stone is a highly competitive professional superstar. In her personal life, she is more like her nickname – Stoner – a chaotic, hard-drinking, anti-love, always up-for-a-good-time mess who has learned the hard way not to trust men. But then her grad school ex-boyfriend Ben returns to the picture, and she is forced to work with him to pass an important green energy bill through the Texas legislature. It is kind of awkward since he was madly in love with her until she cheated on him, tanked his post-graduation plans, and drove him halfway across the country. As the undeniable sparks between Lee and Ben begin to re-ignite, Lee has to tackle both personal and professional demons and does so in her own madcap way.
Lee, Ben, and the supporting cast of characters in this book are so fun, and their fears are intensely relatable. You see how these two seemingly opposite people are puzzle pieces that fit together perfectly, each challenging the other to become the best version of themselves. Also, Ben looks like Clark Kent and wears blue suits that match his eyes. So, thereβs that.
