In My Dreams, I Hold a Knife

Who hasn’t wanted to show up at their 10-year reunion looking like they have their shit together? In this novel by Ashley Winstead, that’s Jessica’s plan, but things quickly go off the rails as six old friends come together with new dynamics and a decade-old murder that haunts them all.

It was not only a fantastic, fast-paced thriller, but it felt like a college reunion. Winstead’s characters and dialogue give you the sense of six people who both know each other well and don’t know each other whatsoever. With the web of complicated relationships between all of them, you are constantly guessing what is happening and who, if anyone, was involved in the death of their friend a decade before – all leading up to a dramatic climax. This is a super fun read that manages to be a character-driven story that doesn’t drag and an action-packed mystery that isn’t overly violent.
